Board Positions

President
The President shall be the principal executive officer of the Association and shall in general supervise and control all the business and affairs of the Association.  The President shall preside at all meetings of the Association and shall appoint all special committees and be an ex-officio member of all standing committees.  The President shall draft meeting agendas and prepare Association updates for monthly Sandburg Pride newsletter.

President Elect
In the absence of the President or in the event of the President’s resignation, inability or refusal to act, shall perform the duties of the President and shall have all the powers of and be subject to all the restrictions placed upon the President.

Recording Secretary 
The Secretary shall keep an accurate record and minutes of all meetings and correspondence of the Association and the Executive Board.  In addition, the Secretary shall see that all notices of meetings are given, prepare copies of the minutes for the President, take attendance at all meetings, be the custodian of the Association’s books and records, and keep the central records and filing system of the Association.

Treasurer
The Treasurer shall have charge and custody of, and be responsible for, all monies due the Association, and shall deposit all such monies in the name of the Association in such banks selected by the Executive Board.  In addition, the Treasurer shall pay out required funds, keep an accurate record of all receipts and expenditures, and present a financial statement of account at every meeting.

Committee Descriptions

Membership
Recruit members from families, students, faculty and administration affiliated with the school.  Assist with selling memberships for the current year at various school functions such as Back to School night, registration and orientation, and open houses.  Maintain and manage a current list of Association members.  Assist with verifying memberships for Senior Scholarship applicants.

Publicity and Communications
Develop a relationship with community newspapers and advise on all upcoming events.  Submit articles concerning Association to school newspaper and newsletters.  Maintain and provide updates on the Association website.   Promote Association through social media as deemed appropriate.  Prepare and send emails regarding Association meetings and events to Association members.

Fundraising/Spiritwear
Develop, implement and staff fundraising events as are necessary to provide the revenue to meet operating expenses and budget requirements.  Research and select spirit wear vendor, select spirit wear inventory, manage and market inventory, sell spirit wear at multiple school events throughout the school year.

Volunteer
Organize and manage volunteers for various Association sponsored events.  Maintain open communication between Association committees needing volunteers.   Manage volunteer email base and maintain contact with potential volunteers and committees.

Hospitality
Coordinate and dispense refreshments and staffing tables for the following events:  Open House, College and Career Night, Freshman Orientation, Honors Night, and other events designated by the Executive Board.  Plan and organize Faculty Appreciation Day including decorating, purchasing food, and organizing volunteers.

Community Relations
Act as a liaison to the Parent, Faculty and Student Associations of all feeder schools for the purpose of providing information about Carl Sandburg High School.  Present membership information at feeder schools.

Budget and Finance
Prepare a budget for the Association.  Receive and review all Committee financial reports.

Scholarship
Organize a scholarship committee to evaluate and grade senior scholarships and oversee grading process. Communicate with faculty scholarship coordinator on application deadlines and submission of award winners.  Update scholarship application forms and guidelines.  Prepare letters for scholarship recipients.  Present scholarship winners at the senior scholarship night.

Legislation
Attend District 230 School Board meetings and keep the Association informed of pending legislation which would impact the Carl Sandburg High School educational community.

Yearbook/Pictures
Coordinate distribution of student pictures in the Fall. Coordinate yearbook distribution at the end of the school year.

Student Representation
Shall consist of an officer or representative of the Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior classes and a Student Council Representative.  The students shall be responsible for expressing the views of the student body and shall assist that Association for the benefit of the School.

Faculty Representation
No less than 2 faculty members, one of whom is tenured and one of whom is non-tenured shall be selected by the faculty-at-large to represent the entire faculty.

Administration Representation
The Principal of Carl Sandburg High School shall be the official administration representative to the Association, but said Principal may designate an alternative in the absence of the Principal.
